RSUPESY&T student Maria Borisova as part of Russia women's national water polo team won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games 2016

August, 19 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Russian women's water polo team with the head coach Alexander Gaidukov won "bronze" at XXXI Olympic Games - 2016. The team was presented by the 3rd year student RSUPESY&T of the Theory and methods of sports and synchronized swimming, water aerobics, diving and water polo Department Maria Borisova, Nadezhda Glyzina, Ekaterina Lisunova, Ekaterina Prokofieva, Elvira Karimova, Anastasia Simonovich, Anna Timofeeva and Anna Grinyova, Anna Ustyukhina, Anna Karnaukh, Evgenia Ivanova, Evgenia Soboleva, Olga Gorbunova.

US team became winner of the tournament, silver medal gone to the team of Italy. 

After bad start in the group stage, the Russians defeated in the quarterfinals the Spanish team (12:10), but in the semi-final gave way to the Italian national team (9:12). In the match for the "bronze" Russian athletes met with the Hungarian water polo players - current champions of Europe.

Normal playing-time of the third place game ended in a draw - 12:12, but in the penalty shootout Russians won - 7:6. In the normal time were noted goals of Nadezhda Glyzina (five), Ekaterina Lisunova (two), Ekaterina Prokofieva, Elvira Karimova, Anastasia Simonovich, Anna Timofeeva Anna Grinyova. Penalties were done by the student of our University Maria Borisova (two), E. Lisunova (two), E. Karimova, E. Prokofieva and N. Glyzina.

"Were dying, but pulled out the medal, - commented the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Vitaliy Mutko. - This is a special victory. They returned to the elite. It is expensive medal for us in the women's water polo."

We note that Russia women's national water polo team has not been a medalist of the Olympic Games since 2000, when those competitions were firstly introduced at the Games of the XXVII Olympics.

Russian national team has completed performance at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on the fourth place in the unofficial team event, winning 56 medals - 19 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze.
